Lungs are like sponges – benefits of quitting

health No Comments »

The sponges represent human lungs. A pair of hands squeeze the tar from the sponge, revealing the cancer-producing tar that goes into the lungs of a pack-a-day smoker every year.

The 15-seconds Sponge Health Benefits version has been developed to link the health consequences of smoking with the immediate health benefits of quitting.

Smoking & Your Lungs

In honor of lung cancer awareness, take a stand/commit to protect yourselves from the health effects of tobacco use.

Garrett Harding, outreach coordinator at Huntsman Cancer Institute, shows a demonstration of the effect of smoking on your lungs. In the video the inflatable pig lungs simulate the lungs of a person who has been exposed to normal amounts of air pollutants and has smoked a pack of cigarettes per day for about 20 years.

Smokers lungs versus healthy lungs

health No Comments »

This demo shows a healthy set of lungs and a set of lungs similar to someone who smoked a pack of cigarettes every day for 20 years. You can see that tar has formed a sticky black layer inside the lungs, which restricts oxygen flow and contributes to cancers forming. Choose to have healthy lungs, and say no to all forms of tobacco.
